We are pleased to invite bachelor and master students to take part in our joint “hybrid” Summer School this summer. The theme is especially suited for students or professionals with interest in a cross-disciplinary approach to cultural heritage and hands-on application of cultural heritage in your studies or profession.
Cultural heritage: Issues of national identity, education and sustainability
International Summer School 11-15th of August 2025 in Denmark, Jelling

The summer school is planned for August 2025 as an onsite – online learning experience. The onsite week will be unfolding in Jelling, Denmark, from 11-15th of August 2025. The summer school is a 5 ECTS course taught in English for students from across multiple disciplines and countries.
The summer school will give participants tools, knowledge and skills concerning cultural heritage, which can be applied in a comprehensive and reflexive way in future studies or professional work. The course content will focus on cultural heritage, including its definitions, manifestations, and use. The course will particularly discuss cultural heritage in relation to four key topics:
- General and cross-cutting issues concerning cultural heritage,
- The relationship between cultural heritage and identity/national identity,
- The relationship between cultural heritage and education,
- The relationship between cultural heritage and sustainability.
During the program of the summer school, we will use diverse learning and teaching methods to explore cultural heritage.
On Monday 11th of August, we will focus on overarching themes, theories and perspectives related to Cultural Heritage and its use. The activities on this day will help shape our enquiry and work for the rest of the week. Throughout the following days we will visit heritage sites locally and interact with stakeholders to learn about their use of and care for the cultural heritage. The week has a thematic engagement with diverse examples of cultural heritage from several countries. We meet Future Studies methodologies to explore how sustainability and the future offers challenges and perspectives to our work with cultural heritage.
The Summer School will conclude with two online sessions on the 27th of August and 3rd of September, as well as an exam to be submitted on Friday 19th of September.
